Understanding foam density!
If you as a consumer have been looking at memory foam mattresses or conventional foam mattresses you will have noticed the term 4, or 5 lb. foam. What does the “lb.” have to do with foam? It is important to know that foam density is determined by the weight of one cubic foot of foam. (12” x 12” x 12”) Therefore, one cubic foot of 5 lb. memory foam weighs 1lb. more than one cubic foot of 4 lb. memory foam.
So what?
A lot! This means that even though two pieces of memory foam, one cubic foot each,
look the same;
one piece actually contains more foam and less air than the other. Hence, the
term density.
Make the right choice!
A higher “lb.” memory foam means better performance and more longevity.
Important! Did you know?
There are many companies out there right now using memory foam and not maximizing the benefits that go along with it. Some companies use small amounts of memory foam under a quilted topper which completely defeats the purpose of memory foam. With a quilted topper the fabric and quilting is completely resistant to letting the memory foam contour to the body. Also, having a thick layer between you and the foam decreases and even eliminates the benefits of the temperature sensitivity because the body’s warmth is not getting to the memory foam.
Memory foam mattress fabric is essential!
The
fabric we are using on our memory foam mattresses has a four way stretch which
is ESSENTIAL to a memory foam mattress.
This prevents a hammocking effect that occurs with non-stretch fabrics.
Hammocking decreases the benefits of memory foam as the resistance in the fabric prevents the memory foam from completely conforming to your body.
First we put a stretchable slip cover over the memory foam itself to prevent any bunching, followed by the zippered stretchable cover. We also have an anti-skid surface on the bottom so the memory foam mattress won’t slide around on the bed.
Helpful Hint!
To
avoid the hammocking effects at home, customers should be encouraged not to use
fitted sheets over their memory foam mattresses, but a loose sheet instead. A
fitted sheet can be used if it is a stretchable fabric such as a jersey knit.
This is also the same with the memory foam pillows, a loose pillow case is necessary
to optimize the use of our memory foam pillow line.
